Yemen is bordered on the north by Saudi Arabia, Oman to the east and south to the Gulf of Aden, in the west lies the Red Sea. The islands of Perim and Kamaran in the Red Sea and Socotra in the Indian Ocean also belong to Yemen. The country is predominantly mountainous cascade up to and rises to almost 4000 m at. The Hadhramaut is a mountain chain along the coast. The plateau in the interior rises steeply from 200 m to 4000 m at the highest peak is the Jabal Nabi Shoveb.
